Beryllium research of GRS concluded

18th March 2002

The research on Beryllium concentrations in " Padparadscha sapphires" is concluded. The conclusion is, that Beryllium does not cause the color in the Padparadscha samples. Comparison of our data with the quantitative data published by GIA shows that the GIA-SIMS data (GIA Insider - Volume 4 Issue 4 - Friday, February 01, 2002) may be considered erroneous (e.g. see Al concentrations and compare with theoretical Al concentrations in Corundum). The technical paper of GRS with details on Beryllium in the gemstones will be submitted on the 4th of April to one of the highest standard scientific journals and middle of April to a gemological journal and end of April 2002 on the Internet (after trade mark and copy right procedures are passed).
The final conclusion on the research is:

Enhanced by heat inducing color zoning

(not described as "treated", not described as "diffusion treatment")

Reports of GRS

Reporting of so-called "Padparadscha" is continued by GRS and gemstones can be submitted after our short time-out and reviewing of our research data in comparison to those published on the Internet by other laboratories.
