Advances in Perettiite-(Y) research as it becomes a member of the "Perettiite mineral group"
Perettiite — the rare yttrium borosilicate first found by GRS as golden needles inside phenakite from Momeik, Myanmar — is now a mineral group, comprising perettiite-(Y) and its aluminium–beryllium analogue badakhshanite-(Y) from the Eastern Pamir, Tajikistan.
Re-measured with a green 514 nm laser, the mineral now has a clean reference Raman spectrum from its original mining area. The true vibrational bands lie below 1200 cm⁻¹; the strong higher-wavenumber features are rare-earth photoluminescence — and the full spectrum, including the O–H region, is documented openly.
Perettiite stays a moving target: as a group with real chemical variation, different members can give different spectra, so the reference data keep evolving with the research.
